It's not truly a post on the Portland forum until borntorun1180 has a chance to work in a negative post referring to Portland's "choo-choo trains."

Heck, Portland had excellent rail transportation until General Motors bought out all the operators. I remember how bad the busses that replaced the streetcars smelled.

That 217 Kruse interchange portion of the drive is going to get old really fast. Hopefully, you'll be able to figure out some good shortcuts.

What's wrong with that interchange? I get off before the actual merge of 217 into I-5.

Haha, ain't that right, I took a break from this site only to come back to this nonsense, seriously, "choo-choo trains?" Who seriously thinks that about the MAX?

My wife drives through that interchange regularly, it is poorly designed with people changing lanes, speeding up, slowing down, it is a mess of an area and backs up very easily. Congratulations on your new job, but you will definitely be looking at quite a commute each way by car each day.

This. I've never driven it regularly so I always took the most obvious routes when driving around in there. It's crazy during rush hour due to all the white collar office buildings where everyone works pretty much the same hours. Morning and evening rush hour is obvious but the lunch traffic is crazy too.

First off, congratulations to the OP for his new job. Best of luck with that!

As for the commute, would he really even use that interchange? I would have expected the OP to come down 43 and turn right on A street in downtown LO and work his way to his office. From downtown Portland, that commute should usually be no more than 15-20 minutes. I'm not sure about from SJ to downtown.

I was planning on using 30 to 405 to I-5 and skip the Freemont to WA State mess

Careful, that's where all the tatooed choo-choo train riding junkies hang out, while looking for subsidized housing.

When they aren't infesting Portland, I mean.
