Any golfers out there? I am assuming summer golf in Portland is unbelievable but I was curious if someone could tell me a little about the conditions during winter. Keep in mind I am currently in Colorado so I am not expecting it to be San Diego. I am curious if winter golf out there would be an upgrade. We can play golf just about any month here but it's on brown grass and the fairways, greens and lakes are frozen (helps acheiving 400 yard drives). Not worth it in my opinion. I don't mind golfing in a little drizzle. Thanks

I think most (if not all) of the golf courses are open year-round in Portland. Honestly, I haven't spent much time on Portland courses in winter, so I can't speak that much to how well kept the courses are in the winter months. I usually golf May-October when the weather is dry and warm. But if you're prepared for slightly cold, soggy conditions for much of time, the golfing should be alright. With the amount of rain gets in Portland in winter however, you're guaranteed the grass is going to be lush and green from November until mid-Summer. We usually don't get freezing temps that often during the winter--although it can happen Dec-Jan, so frozen greens or lakes aren't usually a problem. Also prices at some of the nicer courses out in Washington County will be cheaper in winter as well.

Thanks for the information. You mentioned that the grass is green and lush until mid-summer. I assume that is solely from the rain. Do the courses not water via sprinkler systems after that? That is very interesting that golf is cheaper during the winter. In Colorado it's the same price year round which doesn't make any sense to me when the conditions are terrible. Thanks again.

The courses are watered & green yearround. And yes, green fees are heavily discounted in the off season months. Check out oregongolf.com.

I have friends that play yearround. But, they're of course die-hard golfers. (Not me. I'm a fairweather golfer only.)
