Portland Neighborhoods
Anyone here from Portland?
I'm trying to find a Portland neighborhoods that fall inside that fine line between mega expensive with good schools and low crime and reasonable with bad schools and high crime. I can't find anything in between. Is there an area in the middle??
I'm going to have about $300k to spend on a home. A condo is fine. Just want reasonably good schools and safety. Quaint would be a real plus too!
I have to go up there soon to decide on an area to move my husband and two kids and only have a short time to explore.
Please help!

you might try around Multnohma Village. could be a bit more than your price range, but maybe not if you get a smaller house. - great little private schools, huge diversity in homes, upper/middle class area, people still walk their dogs/kids up and down the streets and talk w/their neighbors. Might be worth looking into.
Good luck.

I am from Portland dont live in Oregon anymore, Multnomah Village is good , but the schools all around Portland have sufferd. I found the best schools to be in Beaverton, but it too has gotten expensive and you really have to watch the area. i really have a hard time telling people to move to Oregon but if you are dead set to do it, really do your homework. Stay away from across the river stay on the west Portland side.

I would suggest West Linn - it's not too far, and not yet "discovered". A very pleasant area with a relatively low crime rate (I just checked at removed - a great site with lots of detail about all Oregon cities - even Brothers is listed there!)

Nea, I was just in Portland and I believe Irvington is on the east side of the river, no? Parts of that area are very very nice and I don't think inexpensive.
