Just moved to Precott 6 months ago and as of now am in the market for a new Subaru Outback.

What you will have to pay for a "new" car here in AZ is this; you pay a State sales tax(% depending county of where the dealership is located) of anywhere from 7.5 to 8.2% one time.

Example: $30,000 x (7.9%) = $2370

Then you also pay a VLT(vehicle license tax) of 60% of the value of the car. Example:

$30,000/100=300.

300 x $2.80= $840

So $2370 + $840 = $3210 total tax for a $30,000 vehicle. Both taxes are tax deductible however!

For a used car you only pay the VLT.

Now if you buy a new car out of State you only pay(in my county of Yavapai) 5.6%.

This exorbitant State tax of 7.6%-8.2% is actually levied onto the dealership but is passed on to you.
