moved to prescott (chino valley) in 08...from so cal...where at that time things were FLYING!!!...
living here for 2 years...the job availability is low. the jobs available are low paying. rent is reasonable, but it should be LOW....cuz thats what we get paid
so combine low wages with reasonable rent....equals poverty....
its been tuf....having inklings of moving...but where????

Been here since 2008 as well. What I don't like are:

Extremely high home prices. I had to rent, even though I sold a home before moving here.

The Job Market has always been bad here, and with the downturn it's gone from terrible to almost impossible.

I've found the restaurants to be somewhat better than average, so dunno why someone marks that as a negative.

Really just the lack of job opportunity and reasonable housing are the biggest black marks. I am moving to rural Southern Utah next month, where the job situation is about the same (actually it's slightly better), and housing is FAR more affordable.

There is a big difference between the average income and the cost of living in the Prescott area. About 10 years ago the tri-city area was affordable and a nice place to live. When all the Californians came to the area escaping high costs, laws, and the hussle and bussle of city life, they brought it all with them. The cost of property went through the roof. $50,000 homes became $200,000 over night. It was good for the job market while it lasted, but all good things come to an end. Unforchanately the high prices, rediculous new laws, and over population has stayed.

The Prescott aea has always been a retirement community. The increase in the hispanic population came shortly after the increase of the Californian population. There are lots of things to do in Northern Arizona depending on your intrests. The shopping choices have increased significately in the past 10 years. Most of the rude people you run into are not native Arizonans. Most are from California. We have some of the best schools in the state.

Gee, that's wierd. Blaming all the negatives on Californians. Never heard that one before. I wonder what the "Natives" said 150 years ago. 90% of Arizonians came from somewehre else, just like California.

We're used to it.

Nobody loves me, everybody hates me
Think I'll go eat some worms
Long ones, short ones, fat ones, thin ones
See how they wriggle and squirm!

"No good resturants"...? WTF? Prescott is loaded with quality restaurants and the best part is, 80% of them aren't chains!
