Default Jags OT shot multiple times, in critical condition

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier was shot and critically wounded outside an apartment building early Tuesday as he and a former Jacksonville teammate waited for two women they had met at a nightclub, police said.

Collier, 26, and former Jaguars defensive end Kenneth Pettway were waiting in a Cadillac Escalade when a gunman fired into the vehicle, said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Ken Jefferson. Collier was shot several times, but it wasn't clear where he was hit.

Collier was in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said early Tuesday. Later, spokesman Chris Turner said the hospital was no longer giving updates on Collier's condition. There are a variety of reasons that can happen, such as a request by relatives.

No, really? A pro athlete out clubbing and consorting with strangers at 3 a.m. getting into trouble? Never heard that before.

Some of these guys will never learn.

from what I understand, it happened in a subdivision. it didn't happen at the club. most likely it was trouble that followed them from the club though.

Exactly. Sounds like they probably pizzed off some boyfriend/husband to me.

It's just so hard for me to feel sorry for these athletes when they have the world at their feet and they feel it necessary to constantly put themselves in these type of predicaments.

I agree and disagree. we are free to go to a club, and mind our own business. I think some of these criminals might view these athletes as opportunities. look at sean taylor. he was minding his own business in his home, and he was gunned down in his own house. I know what you are saying, but it is unrealistic for athletes to stay indoors day in and day out. for all we know, this might have been an innocent designated driver shot by a drunk a-hole. I try to wait for the facts to come out before I pass judgment. I totally know what you are saying though. it usually turns out being someone being where they didn't need to be. when I hear about athletes getting DUI's, it's the ultimate shocker. get a limo for crying out loud.

Jmarquise! Good post. Another example is the Denver Broncos Darrent Williams. It is STILL an open case as DPD still haven't made an arrest. Like Sean Taylor, their situations have adversely affected the franchises, and it pains me to say that. This is a screwball society we live in, like it or not. Now regarding the NFL players and DUI's, that's a no brainer. Don't drive! Call a cab! Should be easy to do. Whether they like it or not, they have to follow the law just like everybody else.
