I fear in the second half, the Patriots offense will run up and down the field, while the Falcons self-destruct under the weight of the moment-turnovers, penalties galore; and then they play not to lose. Final Patriots 31, Falcons 27 Brady MVP, TRump happy, and the whole world will never hear the end of this one!! It'll be the Brady and Trump show for weeks after this. I hope I'm wrong
Nice prediction.

They were on the field for 40 minutes. But the killer play was the sack. They kick that field goal, they still win the game (unless NE gets a successful onside kick).

Interesting fact from Pro Football Reference:

Since 2000, there have been three Super Bowls that were 0-0 after the first. All three were Patriots wins Team Game Finder Query Results | Pro-Football-Reference.com
Yes I remember that.

Yeah, Susan, you basically jinxed it. Gee thanks.

Scanning quickly here, Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Winners | Pro-Football-Reference.com, and checking some who I thought were old (some, not all MVPs so somebody please check me), I believe the answer is Yes. He beat out Elway, who in 1998 was 38 years old.

That was key, but the Falcons' O being on the field doesn't lose the game for them. It was their weakening D coupled with the Pats' offensive adjustments that killed them. They just couldn't stop Brady.

And Matt Ryan's lost fumble/sack on their own 25 with 8:00 left in the 4th really cost them. Already in FG position, Brady and the Pats just couldn't be stopped. No pass rush pressure on Brady - the Pats adjusted their blocking schemes beautifully. TD, 2-point conversion, and it was a 28-20 game with just under 6:00 left.

With 3:16 left in regulation, the Pats have the ball on their own 9, the score is 28-20 Atlanta, and it's 3rd and 10. Brady hits Hogan for a 16 yd gain.

Defensive FAIL.

And then at 2:03, Edelman makes the miraculous catch on a pass that Falcons DB Robert Alford should have picked. And it was Alford's leg that kept the ball from hitting the turf, then Edelman plucked it 1" off the turf.

Amazing. Miraculous.

Edit. And it was Alford that got the pick six for Atlanta to go up, 21-0.

And that overtime - 9 almost-perfect plays by New England in a drive they'll compare to Joe Montana at the end of Super Bowl XXIII. Only 1 incomplete pass (1 other but that was the PI penalty).

John Madden had a quote describing that Montana drive, and it applies to Brady in that OT drive. I'll botch it but it goes something like this - your QB believes he's gonna win, and then the offense believes you're gonna win, and then the crowd believes you're gonna win, but when the opposing team believes you're gonna win, that defines greatness. Or something like that.

It applies to Brady, the QB GOAT.

Simply an amazing, incredible win. Okay, I'm deleting the game recording now. Time to get ready for baseball. Pitchers and catchers report in a couple of weeks!

And FYI: This Super Bowl was garbage. One team played great for the first half, and stunk in the 2nd half, and the other team stunk in the first half, and was great in the 2nd half. That doesn't make it a great Super Bowl!
I am not sure I would call it garbage, but I agree with your thought. How is this even mentioned among the greatest SBs ever--unless you are a Pats fan?

The Falcons D was out of gas. Aikman and Buck kept mentioning how few offensive plays the Falcons had run. I think the pass rush disappeared towards the end because those guys were spent. In OT, you could see they were running on fumes. Once NE won the toss, I knew the game was over because Atlants's defense had been on the field for a majority of the game.
