The only good thing about summer ending is football starts. It's awesome how the sports gods made the best sports happen when the weather is the worst.
Still trying to figure out why they drafted a kicker. Not only a wasted pick but they've been searching for decades to find a guy who can make kicks consistently, and big kicks at that, so what's the need to replace him? I'll take made FGs with shorter kickoffs over a guy who misses big 40 yarders every time.

Zach Hocker: "Appeared in 50 career games at Arkansas from 2010-13, exiting with school records for points and points by a kicker (354), field goal percentage (77.2 percent), PATs made (171), PAT attempts (173) and made field goals (61)... Named second-team all-SEC by the Associated Press in 2013 aſter scoring 67 points, 28-of-28 on PATs and 13-of-15 on field goals. Three of his field goals ranked among the 15 longest in school history, including a 54-yarder."
I disagree with it being a wasted pick as well as settling for short kick-off attempts. Let's say your kicker kicks a 61 yard field goal attempt, take the lead at 24-21 late in the fourth quarter, only to have your kicker kick a short kick-off that is returned for a TD and you wind up losing 28-24. Meanwhile, the seventh round pick you chose is some guy on the practice squad. How does that help you any?
At least with using that 7th to draft a kicker, that from his numbers appears to be no slouch, you bring competition for Forbath - QUALITY competition for Forbath. If this guy comes in and does no worse in consistency with field goal attempts, but out kicks Forbath, consistently, with kick-offs, it's a great move! A short kick-off puts your defense in a world of hurt - which is partly what killed this team last year. Even if the defense holds, the other team is playing field position and placing your offense deep in its own territory.
I agree on Murphy, not sure why that pick was criticized. Disagree on the kicker. Again they have been searching for decades to find a kicker who delivers. They finally have that guy and if they cut him for a rookie he'll go on to have a 12 year career winning games for another team. Seen this act before.
As for Hacker he wasn't even close to the highest rated kicker on draft day. Every year there are several kickers who have impressive college stats. Does not mean he can make a kick in the Meadowlands when you need it. Kai has done it and I don't want to lose a guy like that. If his short kickoff result in a return TD in your scenario, and really what are the chances that happens, that's more on the coverage than the kicker. At least we were kicking off with the lead, in years past we just miss the kick and that's that.
Just bought my tickets for the 49ers game in SF! **** you Krapernick, you bastard!!!
Say hi to my good friend Carlos Rogers. I'd ask for an autograph but he's just drop the pen.
