Rugged Air RA950 ANR Stereo Aviation Headset

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

My husband wants to learn how to fly a plane, a dream since he was a kid so he purchased a sport pilot plane and enrolled in a flying school. The plane he purchased from a person came with accessories like a helmet, portable radio, and a headset. Everything was perfect except for the headset. He complains that the headset that came with the plane is uncomfortable. I tried the headset and he is right, it's tight, my ears and temple.

At his flying school, he has the same complain the headset which was provided to him during his 2 hour flight lesson is tight, uncomfortable and the worst it's noisy. My husband said, "I can't use the headset my instructor gave me to use, my ears sweat, it's tight, very uncomfortable and I can't hear him talk. The microphone attached to the headset is not working." He can't learn properly if he can't hear his flight instructor so I advised him to buy his own headset and bring it when he takes his flight lessons. Besides, the headset that came with his plane is no good.

He went online and looked for different types of aviation headset. He narrowed his choices based on the affordability and features a headset has to offer. My husband asked the company if they can deliver three types of headset for him to choose from. The company agreed so he received the three types, tried them on and he end up choosing the Rugged Air RA950-ANR stereo aviation headset.

Why Rugged Air RA950-ANR stereo aviation headset? It has the following features:

o 39.5 dB Active Noise reduction @ 3000 Hz
o 24 dB NRR Passive Noise reduction
o Dual volume stereo with mono/stereo switch
o Small 9V battery box with belt clip
o Comfortable gel ear seals
o Clear Hear performance audio speakers
o Deep Pocket ear canals
o Wind block foam mic muff
o Fully adjustable spring steel headband
o PJ-055 (.25") earphone plug
o PJ-068 (.206") microphone plug
o 2 year factory warranty

My husband always voice out his opinion about every product he purchased. When I asked him about his new headset this is his answer, "I am satisfied with my new headset. I'm glad I bought it. It's very comfortable my temple doesn't hurt because the spring steel head band is fully adjustable. I can hear my instructor clearly, it blocks the noise and I can adjust the volume of the speakers and the microphone is working pretty good wind noise is blocked. It is also easy to change the battery."
I believe my husband is very happy with his new headset. The price is around $399 more expensive compared with other aviation headset but I guess it's worth it. It's a little heavy but I guess he's okay with that. I just wish the head set has a cellphone interface so he could answer my phone call just to let me know that everything is okay up there when he is flying.
