I have a massive fear of theft even tho I have never been robbed before, it is mostly due to the fact I have short-term memory and forget things easily which makes me panic (Eg. I would take a 10 dollar note out of my wallet to buy something, then to change my mind and just put it in my pocket, after 10 mins or so I would forget about me ever taking out the money, so the next time I open my wallet I would panic, to only find out it was in my pocket the whole time, same witch everyday items such as shoes, electronic etc.)
I heavy dislike of going to crowded areas with a bag, walking by myself at night or taking new route.
I even lock everything away and hide valuables even if relatives or close-friends come over.
When I leave my home even for 5 mins, I lock it up as if I am going away for 3 years, which isn't an issue since everything is pretty much locked away. Majority of my friends encourage me to not to try to be paranoid and to relax a bit more, but I constantly have the feeling "Did I lock the door?" and I'll just go and check, even if I'm at the shops.
With the debt to you, though, I wonder if she's just using her "fear of theft" as an excuse to delay paying you back. If she only shows this fear of using the mail when she owes somebody money, then maybe she's not careful and anxious, but just a semi-deadbeat?
I try to safeguard a few pieces of fine jewelry that I can't replace when I travel.
And, I have a mostly unused medication that I can't seem to find a way to get rid of. I am a little afraid of having it stolen. It is surprisingly hard to get rid of leftover pain meds.
I don't know, but I can guess. Perhaps the fear of theft represents some other unspoken fear that she has not acknowledged to herself.
