Really wish the DSM 5 would include some concession to those of us who have sensory modulation/processing disorders,
such as oral & tactile defensiveness, gustatory hypersensitivity, hyperacute olfaction, etc.
It may sound like so much imaginary piffle to those who don't have (or don't know someone who has) this type of problem-
but take it from me, it's very real for the person experiencing it.
Temple Grandin has great chapter on the subject
(how sensory difficulties cause a lot of trouble for people with and without autism/Asperger's,
and how these aren't often taken seriously by scientists)
in her new book, "The Autistic Brain" (which I'm reading right now).
