I used to talk to myself all the time but I developed a stutter and didn't have the time to listen to myself so whenever I would start talking I would just walk away.
since a small child. I think I got in the habit also when I was little because I was an only child living out in the country and no playmates. One time, when I thought no one could hear me, I was play-acting and doing all the characters and my mother said, "Who are you talking to???" It was embarrassing, but it does help center me and lets me focus; probably an anxiety release, too.
