I know a woman who never eats from restaurants. She was traumatized after she saw a chef in a Chinese restaurant dripping sweat on the food he was preparing.

I guess it's pretty common.

To me, your attitude is extremely bizarre. It is anti-social, insulting and smacks of paranoia.

Paranoia? I hardly think so. People, in general, are disgusting beings. Many pay little to no mind to personal hygiene. You need not take it personally, so it shouldn't be insulting.

I don't know how well ( or even IF ) you wash your hands when you use the bathroom. I don't know if you pick your nose when nobodies looking. I don't know what ( or where ) you scratch. I don't know how obsessive you are about getting your dishes clean, like I am. Because I don't know these things, don't be offended if I don't want you to prepare my food.

One thing I have noticed - the food I cook doesn't smell as nice as the food other folks have cooked.

I have the same problem . I’m repulsed by the idea that the food I will eat contain the breath, air, soul, skin , sweat and blood of the chef.
The idea of eating somebody else’s cooking makes me feel depressed, anxious , sick and disturbed .
I feel they are apart of the food I will eat and that makes me sick .
there are only a couple of men I know who I could take food from and feel at peace with and they are people like myself .
I avoid take aways and pubs and restaurants...
I only eat food cooked by me .

It depends. I can definitely get grossed out by eating in someone else's home if they aren't clean or have pets . My neighbor is a cook but has 3 dogs. She always tries to give me food. I would gag just thinking of where is came from and the dog smells etc..

Although I love to eat out. I prefer plastic silverware when its offered but it doesn't creep me out nearly as much as eating in someone's home.

To answer the thread title, yes, this is weird.

This is a first world problem for sure. If you were truly hungry, you’d eat just about anything edible. I don’t think being afraid of used cooking pots is normal. I mean, most of us own dishwashers these days! And those of us who don’t surely have access to good detergents and dish brushes.

If food has been cooked, it should be safe to eat. But I think it is rational to fear some potluck food, because of contamination possibilities. But I’ve never gotten sick because of someone else’s potluck dish, and I’ve partaken in many potlucks.

But I don’t like eating other people’s cooking because I usually don’t like it very well. It often is too processed, or too sweet or carby, or not appetizing. When I must, I partake. I feign enjoyment to spare feelings. But when I can, I avoid this kind of food. But I don’t avoid it because I am afraid it will make me sick.

Now, that's a bizarre germaphoby prejudice. How on earth would "dog smells" contaminate your food? Literally everyone who's ever invited me to eat food they've prepared has been a pet owner. I grew up with pets, my parents had pets, so did their parents. The pets were healthy and so were they. Cannot recall a single instance of food borne illness because of household pets. In fact, because they share their house with animals responsible pet owners probably pay MORE attention to household cleaning, food preparation, food handling, and kitchen management than otherwise. I have never gotten sick from eating a pet owner's food...ever. Not that a single pet hair in food is something to come unglued over, but think about the possibility of a pet's hair showing up in a meal. Then DON'T think about how often a human hair (yours or someone else's) can end up in a meal someone serves you! You'd probably never eat again.

Exactly. You are probably one of those families who feeds dogs at the table.
