Myself and my parents will be moving to Port Charlotte EAST of 41, I know i won't have gulf access and the house we are moving to is on a FRESHWATER canal, I am wondering if there are any fish in these canals... I am assuming that there are.

Also can any boating be done in this area? i have been looking at google earth and it looks like parts of the canal system seme fairly big and it is semi-misleading because it looks like you can get to charlotte harbor...

So any advice or feedback regarding the canals would be great.. We will be living right on Beacon street.

There are bass in the canals, some are over 5 lbs. I normally fish saltwater. When you get here go to Fishin Franks the people that work there and hang out there all fish the area and don't mind helping with tackle and location tips.
The canals around you will allow you to use a small boat or canoe.
There's are a number of fishin piers, plus fishing off the 41 bridge. Some guys are real good at catching large cobia off the 41 bridge.
If you like to fish you'll love it here.
See ya at Franks.
