It used to be that CD/cassette players were an upgrade from the basic AM/FM radio. Vinyl may be hot right now, but CDs are the only permanent, tangible digital media that is portable.
Can't expect for a rental car to have CD players anymore--rental car companies usually purchase the lowest trim level of a particular model for their fleets.
I made sure that my aftermarket head unit had HD Radio built-in and a CD player. It also came with a PS/2 port for the SXM Connect tuner.
Finally got the optional Connect tuner (easily purchased at Best Buy) because there are too many dead zones around Houston for streaming to work.
Even the satellite radio Sirius? That blips out when near buildings.
Oldies as far as how old? 50's? Most stations now if any are playing 80's.

This is true which is why I preferred my cassettes and CD recordings I used to do myself and program the songs in the order I wanted them in.
I must learn this new flashdrive stuff on the new cars to put music together using these computers and smartphones.
Otherwise I will go with satellite Stereo Sirius on next vehicle purchase.
A couple of oldies stations in the Chicago area are high in the ratings. The listeners as well as advertisers love them.
