Indeed. About 11% of 2014's operating budget of $183 million. That's 6 cents per capita.

Much like sports stadiums (for people who don't give a whit about grown-ups running around with balls), airports (for those who do not fly), municipal golf courses that lose money (virtually all of them), national parks (for those who do not visit them - yes, even through many parks have entrance fees, these + concessionaires fees still account for a minority of total operating costs), military hardware (you know, pacifists), and so on and on and on.

NPR...They sure know their 'demographic' as all radio stations should. I find it pretty good on culture and the arts and they really seem to back classical music. Appears they want to balance the 'old' and the 'new'. Thing is if they could advertise I'd say they could make some moolah. I figure the 'buying power' of listeners even if they may not be contributing as much as they can or should is up there and a bit higher than average.

Much better than AM hate radio. The hosts are polite, with a wider diversity of topics, not just politics or sports.
