Well, isn't THAT just a fabulous piece of information! You're my hero! We're moving to the area in about 6-9 months and don't want to buy a house and then be able to say "we have a great house complete with a freeway in the back yard".
Thank you!

I knew that it would be close, but the flyover puts it too close for my comfort level. I'm hoping that they move it another 1/4 mile south as it gets closer to Lake Wheeler Rd.
I am not sure how it will work with out of state tags though...
All the EZpasses work everywhere now, at least on the east coast.
Soon enough all the roads will be toll, it keeps coming up in the news doing milage based hiways instead of at the fuel pump. Then you will get a gps black box in your trunk.
For everyone that is like **** you western wake, soon enough they will decided to target something you need and care about and put addition tolls and taxes on that. There is absolutely no road infrastructure to Holly Springs, we sorely needed it. Instead of having it built with tax dollars like the rest of the state has had the benefit of, we have to shoulder the burden ourselves. It's obvious that the money for that project went up in the smoking along with house values, sub prime mortgages, etc.

Hmm, that brings up a point. I can definitely see governments moving to a miles driven based tax, rather than per gallon of gas as more and more alternative fuel and electric vehicles are on the road and regular cars get better and better mileage. It would not have to be GPS based, they could check at the annual inspection.
If they do move to a miles driven based tax system will you get a credit for miles driven on a toll road? If you live in Holly Springs or Fuquay or wherever and have to hit the Tri Ex every day for 10 plus miles each way to RTP, much of your miles driven will be on roads that are paid for directly and not via gas or road taxes.
This road will never be paid for. Toll road do not just go away.
Fortunately you are wrong. Some do go away. Just ask the folks in Richmond. I-95 used to be toll through the city and it's no longer a toll road.
Though I will rarely drive it and it won't be a big deal to me, I am all for the toll road going away once it's paid for. I wonder if anyone has a projection for when it's going to be fully paid?

Maintenance has always been the need that justified keeping tolls in place. The State govs accepted that responsibility in exchange for the Federal dollars that helped build the Interstate system.
While you're correct about Richmond, the rest of the story is the Federal gov mandated that those toll booths be removed in exchange for Federal money to build the bypass around Richmond. So its not like the State of Va volunteered to remove them ...

I also remember, in Virginia, when the Dulles Toll Road was 25 cents. Once that was paid off, the toll was supposed to go away, but they decided to keep it for "maintenence". Then it went up to 50 then 75 cents. Now I hear it's $1. Plus you have to pay an additional small toll to get off at some of the exits. Plus, they handed the road over to the airport authority, and they're going to raise the tolls again to pay for the metro rail to go to the airport. So it will be $1.50 by 2012, plus the additional tolls you will still pay to exit off at some exits.
Then, for those who live past Dulles Airport, the Dulles toll road turns into the Dulles Greenway--another toll road. I remember when this was $1-2 (regardless of exit). Now that road has basically been sold to a foreign company, and the toll is up to $4.45. And it will be going up again too.
It does seem like no matter how much money toll roads bring in, it is "never enough". For Dulles toll road users, there is no alternative highway, and that is a lot of money to be paying every day, round trip, to take toll roads. I certainly hope this type of situation doesn't happen here!
