We have signed for one year TWC internet residential service in Cary for ~ $35/month for one year. The bill went up to ~ $45/month after 1.3 year and now (1.7 years laters), we received another email stating the payment went up to ~ $57/month. Overall, I would rate their service as good and relaible but we don't see any improvement at all that would justify this almost doubling the payment. We're lookig seriously to switch to more afordable broadband service in Cary but Internet search is not helpful at all: it comes back to TWC. It seems like it's the only provider, which is unbelievable in a country where competition is praised!. Any advice/comment from your experience. Thanks.

Your Internet providers are typically your local telco and your cable provider. You can order Internet from folks like Earthlink but they're reselling other access providers infrastructure.

Clear does offer WiMAX in this area, but you may notice a drop in quality.

TW current marketing is all about bundles ... primarily to compete with ATT's offering.

This topic gets discussed fairly often here, a search will turn up more details.

I dumbed down our internet to 768k. $30/month I believe. We were paying $15, the $20 for the 1 or 2 mb internet. Like you it went up. Clear is plenty fast and you are lifetime locked in for $30/month, but for us it stops one street over.

$35/month is their promotional rate. If you aren't under contract, you call them up, talk to a customer service rep and ask for the promotional rate of $35/month. I do it every 6 months. You have to ask for what you want.

Exactly, Call TWC and ask for lower promotional rate. Whoever asks gets it. I haven't heard one person getting rejected when asked for promotional lower rate.

I'm on AT&T's high speed DSL with bundled cell wireless service along with home phone service and we like it. I'm waiting for their U-verse TV service to come into my area so I can completely dump TWC. I'm not a fan of TWC and really don't appreciate the constant rate increases. So much for my 2 - cents.

Call TWC- they tried to raise our bill and i called and got transferred to a 'retention department' and they put it back the way it was.

at least till August when i have to call and scream (no, i didnt have to really scream lol) again...

I i think they do it hoping you wont notice or will keep paying anyways, i have never heard of someone NOT getting it reduced to what it was
