Last spring was my first here in the Triangle. I remember enjoying it immensely until one day it looked like a big bomb of pollen went off and turned everything yellow. I can't remember when that was exactly, though. Which plant is responsible for that anyway? I thought the Bradford Pear trees might have had something to do with it, but they are all bloomed here in my neighborhood and starting to get stinky already, so I guess they are not the culprits. Anyone want to give me a heads up so I don't make the mistake of leaving my windows open again like I did last year?
Pine trees. You'll know when it's coming if you just pay attention to the trees. You will see the buds start to get thick in a few weeks. When you see them get thick look out.
This crap drives me nutty every year. I developed massive spring allergies and after a few years, Zyrtec, then Claritin stopped working. I might have to go see an allergist. I hate spending 6-8 weeks constantly stuffy, sneezing, and with watering eyes.
Last year the yellow explosion was Final Four weekend...first weekend of April. I remember skipping zyrtec for just two days while in Indy and coming back to a miserable, yellow world that didn't exist 2 days earlier.
Every year....Valentine's Day marks the start of zyrtec, Bradford pears mark the start of basketball tourney time (and sudafed and very expensive antihistamine eyedrops), Final Four is the yellow explosion, and 4th of July is a break from all the antihistamines until it all starts again in the fall.
Winter is definitely my favorite North Carolina season!
Pray for rain. It's the best remedy for the invasion of the yellow pine tree pollen. My nose typically runs like a faucet from late March until early May. It's the price we pay for a mild climate. I'll take it over 3 months of winter snow.
a lot of people blame the pine pollen for their allergies because they can SEE it. MOST (not all) allergies are other trees and grasses that often start around the same time.
but yeah, i hate it. but what can you do. just a part of life here
Thanks for letting me know. Fortunately, I don't really suffer from allergies, but that stuff was outrageous last year. Last year, I left my windows open, and my house was invaded by yellow!
