Is Cary too far? Or are certain parts close enough?

How far in North Raleigh is too far?

Anywhere else you'd recommend?

Thank you!

North Raleigh between 440 and 540 will take about 15 with no trafic, and 20 to 25 minutes with trafic.

Cary is very close, and should not take more than 15 to 20 minutes. Someone from Cary can verify that.

When I worked at Centennial Campus, near downtown Raleigh, I lived in downtown Apex. Commute was 12 miles and took 15-20 minutes normally. Every now and then it would take longer, especially coming home. This was before 64 was widened.

Now I live in West Cary and with the new NC 540 I can drive from my house to downtown in 15-20 minutes on weekend nights (when I am most likely to do so). Since I'd be going against traffic in the mornings, I wouldn't expect it to be much worse until I go to Wade Ave.

North Raleigh area would not be too far at all. About Cary I'm not that sure.

I live 5 miles past the 40/42 exit and it takes me about 20/25 minutes to get to the Saunders St exit - and that's with rush hour traffic.

Some parts of Cary will be within 20 minutes.

In North Raleigh, I would definitely stay within 540.

If you want rural, you might consider East Wake County. The 64/264 Bypass is tremendous. I went to Zebulon from Cary today in just about 25 minutes.

I live in N. Raleigh just North of I-540 just off of Falls of Neuse Road. I work in downtown Raleigh and it takes me around 25 minutes. I agree with Mike's post, for a 15-20 minute commute to downtown from N. Raleigh you need to stay withing the limits of I-540..

I have a Clayton address, though we're not in the town limits, and live 3 miles from the Wake/Johnston Co line off Winston Road. I used to work in downtown Raleigh and my commute was only 15-20 minutes. And occasionally came home for lunch.
