Default Anyone have a recommendation for a "unique" dining experience/restaurant in the Raleigh area?

I am planning a dinner with a group of friends and they want to eat some where "different". Meaning they want to avoid the chains and avoid normal cuisines/food you normally get in restaurants (Italian, American, etc).

So something like African, Carribean, European, etc....that or just a cool/different experience/environment.

Anyway thanks in advance for any suggestions.

We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past - not a chain and good food.

I have recently fallen back in love with Dalat on Western Blvd. Its not much on atmosphere, but the food is unique. I usually get one of the vietnamese dishes.

For Asian Fusion food you could try An in Cary which has won a number of awards for it's upscale dining.

It's a little "generic" but still "different" -- fondu style restaurant "The Melting Pot"......... While it is technically a chain, its a little different and a little fun friendly I suppose.......... Good luck!!

If you are looking for something different in downtown Raleigh I would Check out Babylon (Moroccan cuisine) of course the outdoor seating is very cool but probably not the best fit this time of year.

In North Raleigh I like Dos Taquitos (Mexican). It is a little pricey but very good and the decor in the interior is very interesting - not like anything I have ever experienced in a Strip Mall Before.

Overpriced and the meat is like boiling meat in a pot and then dipping it in a sauce. Sorry Ben, but the last meal I had there was HORRIBLE.

Default Unique/exotic dinner ideas

I'm surprised nobody's suggested Sitti or it's sister establishment Neomonde.
If you want to walk on the wild side with Chinese food, try 35 in Cary (it is NOT the same as 35 in Chapel Hill. At all. Not even close.)

Another option: hit Fullsteam, Lonerider, or Big Boss and graze from the food trucks (Chirba Chirba dumplings, OnlyBurger, and KoKyu Korean tacos are favorites).
