I have used Wake Freecycle for several years to give things away to people who might need them. The goal of Freecycle (supposedly) is to keep things out of the landfill.
Does anyone know of any local alternatives other than Wake Freecycle and the "free stuff" section of Craigslist? Freecycle is difficult to use due to the moderators being ridiculous, and Craigslist is fine for big bunches of things (curb alerts), but not so much for individual items.
If anyone knows of anything similar to Freecycle (people come to you to pick up stuff rather than you taking it to Goodwill or elsewhere), I would appreciate it!
Aware of GCF/Goodwill, etc. What I am looking for is an online network similar to Freecycle for recycling. Freecycle is such a great idea, but the way its moderators operate makes it counterproductive, which is really too bad.
some towns have a recycle area near the dump..people leave things that could be reused or fixed & stuff not selected goes to landfll..I wish we had that..
I see great grills/bikes ..all kinds of things thrown in the dumpster at the landfill all the time..no one is allowed to retreive anything..

Chapel Hill has a "swap shed" at the landfill convenience center on Eubanks Road.

Heh yeah I had them deny some of my posts because they decided landscaping plants aren't Freecycle worthy I'm also curious if there are similar swap boards for the area that aren't so anal retentive.
I don't know of other online forums for that besides Freecycle and Craigslist, but maybe Raleigh's swap shop would be a good alternative. It's made up of a couple of sheds near the big recycling dumpsters at the New Hope Road yard waste center. Some types of things aren't accepted (for example, yes: appliances, tools, cookware, no: clothing, books, paint). The sheds aren't crammed with stuff, which makes me think that someone is finding a use for the items.
There's actually more than one Freecycle group in the Triangle -- have you tried the Cary Freecycle group? It's listed as not moderated.
