But to answer your question I think they told me I had to cancel and be without for at least 2 weeks to sign up for a new subscriber discount. I would go to the folks at the fairgrounds who signed us up who kicked in a gift card of choice and a discounted rate vs calling the N&O directly.
We get a lot of news from the internet sites too, but there seems to be something magic about the way the stats page is set up... many days it ends up all marked up with notes, etc. There is something great about sitting at breakfast reading the paper together that gets lost in the gadget world.

And I love them too. I grappled with cancelling for a month after watching the 60 Minutes story on how New Orleans lost their paper.
I love the N&O, but I would put a higher value on my paper if the N&O owners put a higher value on their employees. The newsroom has been decimated in the past couple of years. There ARE ways to deal with the huge changes in how information is being delivered without alienating, even losing, your longtime subscribers. Asking us to pay over $100 more than a newbie is just too much.

One thing to keep in mind for the printed paper one pays $120 or $200 a year for.....its all yesterdays news! On line news is instant.....breaking news is usually happening as you get the email, text, or tweet. Almost all of that instant news is free.

Sundays one misses the coupons, but there are many online coupon services where one can get their coupons anyway. Coupon clubs, coupon newsletters, coupon mania....so hard copy coupons are about as out dated as the news in the daily news paper they come in.

Cancelled ours years ago and found we have less garbage going to the landfill each week and no more wet soggy newspaper!
