Hello, I am looking for some input on which town, neighborhood or area is the most central in terms of commuting to Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. My family will be moving to the area and I currently work from home. However, I do not expect to be working from home long-term and when I do get a different job it will most likely be in higher education. So, I am asking for strategic advice in terms of which area would give me the best commuting options to all 3 major universities? Thanks!
Pretty easy plot the 3 university locations on a map and select a location in the nearest central location. It will probably be somewhere near Morrisville and/or Cary.
Thanks, all. I really appreciate your responses. I should have clarified that I am looking for the fastest route to these locations, not necessarily the shortest. Where I live now I can drive 20 miles to the south or east in about 20 minutes, but driving 20 miles north or west would take over an hour.
I agree with a previous comment that living close to I40 would be the ticket. Possibly in the area near Southpoint Mall. That way you would move against the RTP traffic going toward NC State. There is also less traffic from that area to UNC during rush hour since you are west of RTP, and Duke is not that far away. Also it is a nice area due to the mall, with a lot of housing options.
Brier creek.
You can take 147 to Duke or 40 to both UNC/NCSU, and be there in 20 mins max.
Southpoint is great for UNC/Duke, but a little further out for NCState.
Anything close to 40 would be perfect.
