I wonder if there's a pest service that will track down and kill whatever nests are on your property. I dislike getting stung very, very much.
We have Moxie. We noticed 2 bushes in our front yard must have had a next (hit the bush while trimming and a ton flew out). Luckily the wife and kids weren't stung. Moxie came out and sprayed all the bushes.
The bees then moved from the bushes to the banana tree - but I just cut the thing down and they were too stunned to come after me.
I say this all to say, yes, Moxie will help if you have them... I pay them $99 4 times a year and they come out 4 times a year and spray the yard (usually for fire ants), and take care of any spider webs or stupid flying things that make mud houses on the sides of my house (I forget their names). But they'll also come out for free in-between if need (and we did need for mice and a snake this past summer).
I noticed a lot of them lately at the refuse center. They are all dumpster diving and not really bothered my throwing out the recycle items. I did have a few get into the vehicle but with the windows open they flew out. I guess one can say with a level of confidence that they all had a 'Buzz' on!

I agree RDUBiker! We ended up with 2 on our property a couple months ago. Didn't even notice until someone pointed one nest out to us. Called Alexander Exterminating and they came out to look at the nest. I then noticed a yellow jacket flying on the other side of the house and asked about it and the guy found another nest. Took care of both of them. Plus reasonable rates on termite inspections.
I mowed over a nest in my backyard and they stung the bee-jesus out of me. You can kill them at night with a torch, if you can find the hole they fly in and out of. Fire in the hole (literally), they will be attracted to the light and fly into the flames. Then you just keep torching the hole until they are all dead. That's how I took care of my problem.
I have recently destroyed two nests. The first time I used the long range spray without any luck. The second time I used the new (to me) foaming wasp spray. It is excellent. It is also good for Spring carpenter bees.
So interesting. I actually saw very few bees around my yard this past summer!
Agreed NRG, I'm in n. Raleigh too and have noticed almost no yellow jackets on my property compared to several nests in years past. Maybe they're moving away.....?
We had a nest in the ground last year....killed them just before dark by emptying a can of wasp spray in the main hole. No sign of them there or anywhere in our yard since.
