there is a site that I find helpful - bedbugregistry.com where you can look up hotels before you book/stay.

they also accept reports from folks who have encountered them from hotels.

Do NOT stay at the Hampton Inn in Wake Forest. Maybe try Candlewood if you want to stay near Wake Forest. Do try something newer. Maybe the ones near Crabtree as suggested. They're not that far away.

Homewood Suites are usually pet friendly. There is one on 64 in Cary, not convenient to Wake Forest I guess.

I also like the Embassy Suites in Cary, it's right off I40. I've not stayed at the one by Crabtree Valley but I've heard it's nice. Not sure about their pet policy. You could also board the dog while you're here (we boarded our puppy in NY when we went up last summer).

I use www.bedbugregistry.com all the time. My parents got bedbugs a year ago that they brought into their home. They *think* it came from a hotel in Durham but can't be sure. After that experience, I check that site before I stay anywhere. It's obviously not foolproof, but it's something. You wouldn't believe all the hotels that have bedbug reports. Yuck!
