Wake county posted the magnet results yesterday. I actually received my first choice for my rising K student (Hunter Elementary). Curious if other parents who applied also received their first choice....

I did, also Hunter, but it was pretty much a given since my oldest is there. Congrats! I hope you love it as much as we do!

I'm glad that those reporting thus far got exactly what they wanted. I wonder if any folks who might attend capped schools applied for magnets, and how they fared.

Fwiw, our base school is not capped. But we are in a high performing node.

Waitlisted for my kindergartner. However it has been suggested that magnet programs don't have an impact until 3rd grade. Any truth to this? Should I wait until he is older?

We are at a magnet and my daughter (sibling) got her first choice as well.

While it may be true that the impact of magnet programs kick in at the 3rd grade level, getting in at that time is much harder than at the kindergarten level. I would make every effort to get in for kindergarten.

wait,

so does this affect a "transplant" like myself and family whose children won't be in Wake County until '14-'15?

We didn't apply to any magnet schools (or any schools yet for that matter)...does this mean that even if we did that we would have NO shot at getting in, since they've already determined the results?
