I live in unincorporated Wake county, down by the Lake Wheeler area. I am not on city water or sewer. Our community has a well and it is maintained by a separate company (Aqua, I believe). The previous owner of our house had a water softener and whole-house filter installed.

Because of my hobby (beer brewing), I'd like to have my water tested to determine levels of certain ions that are important for brewing (Ca, Na, Mg, sulfates, carbonates, etc).

Since I'm concerned with the water post-softener and filter, the water company wouldn't apply. Also, the water softener company will only test for hardness, dissolved solids, and pH, so their report is not detailed enough for me. Is there an independent lab, or perhaps a lab at NC State, where I can send a vial of water for them to test?

Here are some links that provide several different contacts for local labs

Here are a two local State Certified labs in Cary that I have heard of as well:

http://www.encolabs.com/

I'm sure if you give them a call they can point you in the right direction!

I'm not sure where I'll be working, but I want an area that is safe, has good schools, and I can get a nice house with a good sized yard for a reasonable price.
Very Funny!
