I don't think they actually check if you can get Gigapower at your address, just threaten with it anyways. AT&T is just laying the lines on the main street near my neighborhood, I can't even sign up for it yet.

I received a mailer from TWC that the speed increase is about to arrive and that I need to upgrade my modem to take advantage (I'm in 27613). I just purchased one of their recommended 16x4 modems and will install tomorrow and post an update afterwards.

I recommend the SB6183 over the SB6121 to future proof your network.

Our networks will be future-proofed when we all have FTTH. Until then, I recommend getting the cable modem that matches the speed of the service required. SB6121 is fine for 50/5 on Earthlink/TWC.

I kind of agree as the 6183 is not that cheap and many are just waiting out for Google or ATT GigaPower. Though usually, you can find the 6141 for only $5 more than the 6121 so that might be a decent compromise, assuming they are offering the 100/10 tiers here.

I went with the 6183 just due to the fact that I got a refurb/open box deal from Amazon that was only about $20 more than the 6141 was going for at the time I purchased. Seemed a good deal to have extra service options in case I wanted them in the future as I have been burned by just being outside service areas before so I am planning that I will not get any fiber options.

If they surprise me and fiber is available then I assume the 6183 will hold a little more value for resale than the 6141. As I have been saying a lot lately on this thread, only time will tell.

So anyone know what options are presently in or are coming to Durham (27705)?

I'm already ditching TWC for Apple TV with HULU Plus and HBO Now, and would love to either dump them permanently OR be able to negotiate a better price for my extreme internet.

If you're a MAXX customer, you want the 6183.

No, if you're on 30/5 or 50/5 you want the 6183.
