IMO one might as well get a travel trailer ,and be done with it .
They are made to be on the road, and deal with weather, and are completely self contained, and significantly lighter, more storage space and less wasted space .
Some toy trailers even provide a loft for sleeping, besides all the amenities of a regular trailer.

Belvidere Park in Raleigh too. Except now that it's in a hot real estate spot, you will be hard pressed to find many. They've all been added onto the back or another level on the top. My previous neighbor originally had the same floor plan as my small house, now it's over 2000 sqft . Luckily the yards were big enough that adding onto is an option.

There was a tiny home builder in Raleigh that recently built a home on an HGTV show. He built it for a lady moving here from Charlotte. Don't recall the name, but I'm sure you could Google it.

The more I see of these HGTV shows about Tiny Houses, the more I'm realizing that they are campers with pretty fronts!

Now don't get me wrong, I think they are adorable and I may be able to live in one for a long weekend (with hubby) before I'd want my own space BUT...to live in full time, no way!

Although, I'd buy one for my backyard (if HOA would allow) for my grown kids with babies (just to have the babies close by)!!!

However, after seeing my kids' homes, I doubt they could fit all their "stuff" into one of these tiny homes!

I was wondering where my daughter would put her piles of dirty clothes in a tiny house. She doesn't wash...she just buys more

I've always thought they should just buy paper clothes...no need to wash. Just wear and toss!

Oh, I know. I don't know the sf of the singlewide I grew up in, and it wasn't terribly happy, but it definitely wasn't big. However ... kids could roam, walk to town, spend time in yards and parks without parents. Some people still lived near extended family, sharing spaces somewhat. No one telecommuted and needed office space at home. Or even just room for a computer. The only people I knew who worked out of their houses usually built a little side structure for their hair salon, or had barns/sheds.

Kids didn't need room for tvs or desks in their rooms. Only some needed storage for sports equipment.

Some people lived in small houses, but spent a lot of time at church or the club. You didn't necessarily spend time with your friends in your house, maybe at church or on your porch.

I know it can still be done and people can be content with small spaces. But a lot of people meet different needs out of their homes now.

None of the ones I've seen are half as nice--or as expensive.
I always get a kick out of seeing a tiny house with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances.

Me and the Mrs. are probably going to build another house within the next couple of years and we've vowed not to go above 1,500 sq ft. Since it's just the two of us we don't need any more room than that. In fact, if I didn't require a home office we could probably go even smaller.
