We are considering a move from MN for my husbands job and I would like more info on schools. We were thinking Cary but I don't know. We are currently in a district that has very strong schools. In MN it is the traditional neighborhood school for the most part. You buy your house and that address has a school you go to and will go to all of the years. That school is the one that is closest to the neighborhood. I have been reading about the Wake County Schools and the redistricting issues facing those in that school district. We currently live in a cookie cutter suburb so I am fine with that kind of area. I like to be in a suburb but close to the city. We were thinking Cary but now with what I have been reading, I have many concerns about the changing of schools from year to year with the redistricting. I know that that does't happen to everyone but it seems to be common. I want a strong academic school where my kids can go for all the years. I don't want them to change schools and I do want public schools. Is there another district near by that is as strong that doesn't have the redistricting issues? Or where can I live in the wake country that doesn't redistrict? Some people have written that they haven't had to change schools.
Thank you for any input. I know this has been talked about a lot in the threads and I have been reading them.
Cary is high growth so there's been some movement. I personally think there are some options that would make redistricting very unlikely at the elementary level (e.g., Highcroft and Weathersone subdivisions which basically have neighborhood schools). But, there are no guarantees. Have you considered Chapel Hill?
I also think you should look at Durham and Chapel Hill. There are still some new schools set to open that I think will impact Cary and definitely North Raleigh. There's still some chance of being reassigned in Cary.
There is A LOT of chance of being reassigned if you live in a newer area of Cary! The only stable areas in Cary right now are in central Cary OR if you move into a newer area that is slated for one of the new schools opening up. If you get into one of the new schools, it's unlikely you'd be reassigned.
