Pretty intense in Carolina Beach and Kure Beach too.
Any flooding near the boardwalk aka Britts?

Any news outlet always blows stuff out of proportion. It's why they put a name on any storm they can, because it trends and brings in more eyeballs. I stopped watching the news and can honestly say I feel much better. News does nothing but put fear and negativity down your throat.

While there is a certain amount of truth to that, its not that clear cut. If one lived in Charleston, it would have been foolhardy, and perhaps fatal, to ignore the recent forecast. Like anything else, one has to use judgement and discernment.

Well it's easy to stick your head in the sand and not think about the fact that but for the mercy of God and 225 miles those horrible scenes of devastation could be right here in Raleigh. If nothing else something like this makes me stop and appreciate the fact that we were spared the life changing hardships our neighbors in SC are going to go through.

You trust city data posters three hours away more than the news ?

It probably did flood; the lake overflowed and there are voluntary evacuations on the north end.

My former Wilmington neighborhood is flooded from what I heard - there was an overnight high tide but hopefully it'll be better today.

We did get really lucky here. I didn't even see a lot of trees down.

There is flooding in Carolina Beach, but I don't know about Britts. WECT has a video of Carolina Beach flooding: Canal Drive, Carolina Beach Ave. North closed - WECT TV6-WECT.com:News, weather & sports Wilmington, NC . A friend of mine posted a picture on their site of the north end of Carolina Beach getting pummeled by ocean waves right up to the condos.

There is also a difference between watching the news and becoming informed via other methods. Just because you don't turn the TV on at 6 or 11 to ingest the TV version, doesn't mean you are not informed. Also, given social media and the internet, you may know about your topic of interest (with information from multiple sources) than if you wait for the "inefficient" tv broadcast (where you need to wait through commercials and other topics which may not interest you).

News outlets don't name storms, the National Weather Service does.
