I still cannot get out of my driveway in Cary- we face the north. It's all ice. I am hoping for only a delay tomorrow. My kids already have to go to school this Saturday.

I think our driveway is still icy, but it's fairly flat, so we just roll out.

That said, I can see some roads here where there's still a thick sheet of ice, just looking out all my windows. If that doesn't change, I do not think that there will be any school tomorrow.

I would not send a kid on a Saturday makeup day. We have computers now. They can get their work on one of those babies. I know they have to schedule those days, but since none of mine are up for perfect attendance awards and their teachers DO have their assignments online, I don't see a ton of need unless we miss a huge number of days that would require makeups only on Saturdays. This is one thing about year-round schools that sucks, though.

Yesterday, I thought Tuesday would be a delay but after a drive through Wake Forest earlier today, I am more certain of another cancellation. The school parking lots and sidewalks and whether power is restored to all the schools today will decide things.

Forecast says it's only supposed to get down to 30-32 tonight, so we won't have the freezing like we have had the past couple nights.

Well I said 2 hours but I'll take 3 hours as a correct guess

I don't want the Wake school district broken up but I would love for them to have snow days based on region (similar to the athletic divisions). I am in South Cary, drove all over Raleigh today (ITB) and the only roads I ran into any issue with were 2 of the smaller side roads over by Neomonde.

We face east and have a sloping driveway. Took me just about 3 hours total to chop it all up. They key today was to remove the top layer and let the rest sit for a bit. I did just that and an hour later my wife was able to scrape away the remainder.

On the plus side, fitbit calculated over 800 calories burned for my chopping activities yesterday

Just read that all Wake county schools are on a 3 hour delay tomorrow.

So is Chapel Hill - 3 hour delay tomorrow with a possibility of it changing in the morning. Fingers crossed that they open!

You need to stage your vehicles in strategic positions before the storm starts. Park at the end of the driveway before the storm starts, that way you just roll out (and cover up valuable driveway space that wont get covered with ice).

My in-laws, who have a relatively long driveway and regular medical appointments this week, parked in their garage, instead of at the end of their driveway. Between the 3 inches of sleet that fell on the ground and the foot and a half which blew off the roof, right at the garage entrance, they needed to be chipped out, instead of just either rolling down the hill or parking at the edge of the driveway.
