Had a copperhead slithering through the parking lot at my work in Chapel Hill on Monday night as well...
To quote Samuel L Jackson (with a little poetic license for language and relevance).. "THAT'S IT....I have had it with these mother bleeping snakes...in this mother. bleeping. town!"

As for pet snakes, I like to say that I'm raising free range copperheads on my property. Granted that's not the same thing as keeping them for pets, but it puts a way more positive spin on the reality of things.
not sure it's been completely verified but some news is reporting that he worked for a reputable reptile rescue, helped with snake research and was very experienced handling them.
I'm sorry to hear he was injured and hope he's on the mend.

Hope he gets better soon.
