I was just at the Walmart in Chatham County on 15-501 just south of Southern Village and they had two different UNC license plate frames $15, I think.

No. There used to be one on University Drive in Durham near 15-501 but it's closed. At Home is currently in that old Kmart building. I believe there's only 2 Kmart stores that are still open in the Triangle and they're both in Raleigh (One on Six Forks Road and the other on Western Boulevard).

KMart and Walmart both sell way more NC State gear than Carolina gear


In all seriousness you can get license plate liners at most auto-care stores too. Check out Autozone, Pepboys, etc.

Also I'm pretty sure license plate frames are against the law in NC now; at least for on the rear of the vehicle where the actual license plate is.

They're not against the law, but you have to be sure that it doesn't cover up too much of the license plate. I got pulled over by a zealous cop in Pittsboro shortly after the law went into effect.
