Any errors or omissions are my own

ETA: I belive the schools which show 95% are actually "95% or more."

Thanks for compiling this, Michgc. Always interesting.

I got an error on your link to the SAS viewer. Not sure why but you can go there from here: NC School Report Cards

The ACT scores in an Excel file can be accessed here: The ACT and ACT WorkKeys Results

Are the numbers the percentage of kids at each school who score a 17 or above?

Hey Michgc, I downloaded the Excel file and it looks to me like different numbers, based on the benchmarks of 18 for English, 22 for Math, 22 for Reading, 23 for Science and 18 for Writing. Using 17 as a benchmark does make us get higher scores across the board, though. BTW, wonder why the English and Writing benchmarks are so much lower?

And WOW for Early College at Guilford — their composite average is 30.1 (compared to 25.8 for East Chapel Hill, and 24.1 for Green Hope, 24.7 for Wake STEM Early College, 25.1 for Woods Charter, 27.5 for Raleigh Charter, 22 for Durham School of the Arts).

Thanks, I fixed the link, I think. Yes, I believe that the percentage shown represents the percentage of 11th grade students at each school who scored a composite score of 17 or better.

Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but what/where/why is Philips High? That is scary!

I don't know how they pick their benchmarks. I did not use the Excel file you downloaded but the other link that NC Report Cards provides which shows the proficiency rates. I think my link is corrected in my first post and if you click on school reports and then ACT, you can choose which district and schools you want to look at, and then you can see where I got my data.

I believe someone last year said that it is an "alternative" school.

The percentages shown by subject are the percentage who met the "ACT college-readiness benchmarks on each of the subject tests along with total percent of benchmarks met." I believe the ACT college readiness benchmarks for these subjects are different than the percentage shown who meet the minimum composite of 17 to be considered for admittance into the UNC system because the percentage reaching the subject college readiness benchmarks are much lower than the overall who met the composite minimum benchmark of 17. For an example, I looked at Albermarle High School. They have a school percentage proficiency score of 42.9% which I believe means that 42.9% of their 11th grade students had a composite score of 17 or better on the ACT but only 8% met the college readiness benchmark in all four subjects (doesn't include writing) with 25% pecent proficient in English (with a benchmark of 18), 15% in math (benchmark of 22), 20% in reading (benchmark of 22), 14% in science (benchmark of 23), and 13% in writing (benchmark of 18).

Gotcha! Thanks again for posting. I really don't care that much about test scores for my kids (not a Tiger Mom), but I'm always interested to see how the different schools are doing and the state as a whole.

Phillips High is the "last chance" school for students who have been expelled from other Wake County schools. No neighborhoods are assigned to Phillips High.
