So we have decided that we will be looking mostly at the resales which are in the 1-5 year old category. Having said that, what are some of the good builders that I can consider. I know John Wieland builds good houses but what are the others?. It doesnt have to be local builders but then again you wouldnt know who builds a sub-division with national builders.

Any suggestions/ ideas based on the people who actually live in the well built homes. (I know to stay away from couple of specific names but looking for more to stay in or out .

Thanks

My two favorites are Centex Homes and M/I Homes. I have owned both and have loved them. I looked into Toll Brothers and was dissappointed the more I looked into them (just not quite as good as advertised). I would have nothing to do with KB Homes and Beazer homes.

Probably in the $400K-$500K range. (It all is going to depend on what we get for our house up in MA .)

I would stick with the custom builders instead of the national builders. Of course I'm biased because my husband is a custom framer. He has worked for these custom builders: Bock, Benchmark, Hurst Built, Cooper & Rock, Johnny Hayes, JM Davis.

A few others to consider:
Olde South
Lichtner Homes,
George Bailey & Assoc.
Medallion Const.
Cattano Const.
Future Homes,
Andrews Const. Co.
Dutchman Builders
Hearthstone Custom
Builders Stonewall Custom Homes,
Armstrong Custom Homes

I am from Hardwick...........near Quabbin Reservoir. You are going to love it around here. It's awesome. I do not miss a thing.

What town are you looking for down here? I may be able to direct you to some developments or away from some others, depending on your needs.

If you are building from scratch and want a particular layout, then a quailty custom builder is usually best. However, if you are buying an existing home, then a quality national builder, such as Centex or M/I homes are just as good if not better, as they have fine tuned the building of similar designed homes.
