This one is easier for me to vote for than the Amazon one. Initially I was very enthusiastic about the possibility, but the consequences that objectors have pointed out to adding at least 50,000 new jobs to the area have given me pause. This won't have as big a footprint as Amazon will, and it's an established name that will give even more credibility to our area as a tech hub and a desirable location to live.
I would much much much prefer Apple over Amazon. I think it will be a great employment asset to the area, and Apple is a much better place to work than Amazon from what I hear.
I also think the more reasonable step of 10k employees versus 50k employees makes sense. Now if we get both Apple and Amazon, then watch out.
Agree with the others. Although Amazon is an interesting idea, having Apple here would be more beneficial. I'm not sure the area is ready for a behemoth the likes of which Amazon will be. Apple will have a smaller footprint, will likely build in areas where infrastructure is already in place and add to the area's growing reputation.
I don't live in the Triangle anymore, but I am rooting for you guys! I am excited to see what the Apple effect will be on the metro area. And as another poster stated, it could cement Raleigh/Durham as a tech hub.
Agreed, if we get Apple and don't get Amazon, it'll put our name on the map for future "Amazon-like" tech offerings while giving us a little more breathing room to grow a little more before going to that level.
Too much influx too fast. Further driving up real estate prices, taxes, etc. I'll pass.
If I wanted to live in California, I'd move.
I'm puzzled. Apple has indicated they would start with 1000 employees working in the Westin area. Over the course of the next three years, they would increase that total, with it likely falling short of 10,000. Projections are somewhere in the neighborhood of 7,000.
I don't see that as a mass influx.
I would think differently if they were not planning to use areas where infrastructure was already present, which is the concern I would have for Amazon.
