If we get into the Hs, watch out. Hugo was pretty intense and Hazel is the hurricane all other hurricanes are measured against in North Carolina. https://www.ourstate.com/hazel/ . It blasted through Brunswick County up to Fayetteville and Raleigh and all the way up to Toronto!
Ground zero was right here at the SC-NC border. I remember the day Hazel came to Raleigh just like it was yesterday.
Yup, I think 2004, I'll never forget Frances because it just sat there forever, and my landlord smoked a ton of pot and was running around the yard dancing while things were pelting him.
Yeah, the forecast for Hurricane Dorian is a mess It's as if the world's best model just threw up its arms in despair.
Spaghetti plots of forecast tracks are commonly shared online, both in news stories and on social media, and they're sometimes useful. With Dorian, a plot like the one below from Thursday evening, which shows the official forecast track from the National Hurricane Center (in black) as well as other models, is actually very deceiving.
European modal has Dorian buzzing near the coast of FL without technically making landfall and then heading north/out to see.
Should be interesting.
Would almost be worse then. No landfall means nothing to break up the eyewall. Meanwhile the entire east coast of Florida gets raked with the strongest winds.
Another hurricane season and models are ever-changing as usual and yet posters are surprised the models are all over the place, as always occurs every.single.time.every.year.
There is no point looking at models this far out. They don't even know what's going to happen 3 days out, let alone 5+. You should always be prepared regardless.
