It dosen't have to be fancy or even sit down....we tend to carry-out on Friday nights. I saw a place on 55 near Apex (Mexico Taco's?--can't remember the name), it looked like a dive, but, sometimes those are the best places. Any suggestions on where to find some really good Mexican food.
If you are looking for fancy Mexican one day, my son is head bartender at Jabara on Six Forks at Celebration. It is really nice not to mention expensive. It was in some magazine in Raleigh as best place to bring a date. It's like Angus Barn Mexican. No tacos or nachos. I didn't recognize anything on the menu. My son had to explain everything to me.
Believe it or not I never thought I would eat food from a gas station but...there is a gas station on ten ten road near Knights Play golf course and HWY 1 that has a little kitchen inside of the convenience store. Every time I go there I see a lot of Mexicans and latinos standing in line. I have to say that it is the most authentic I have had since I have been in this state. The tacos are excellent. Per i'minformed, I will soon try out La Rancharita in Apex.
up by the Petsmart is a place called Qdoba (might be spelled wrong) it is similar to that - they have AWESOME burritos! BIG FAT ones!
if you are coming from somewhere like Walden Creek or the Home Depot - go over 64 (on hwy 55) over near Haydon Hall on the right you will see it near the road (if you pass Caraba's you went too far)
The Qdoba chain does have good burritos, but they are in no way mexican. It has to be the most americanized place. They don't even claim to be mexican.
Informed...we ate at a "La Rancharita" (I think that was the name) at 55 & High House Rd. in the Herris Tetter (I'm sure that is spelled wrong!) complex---are they owned by the same? It was good, that's what got me wondering about other good Mexican places.
Thanks all for your suggestions so far! They all sound worth trying...esp. that one in the gas station--lol--I hope I can find it.
The one in downtown apex is the "original" and IMO better one. But the food is just as good at both of them...... (and it's Harris Teeter.... I'm assuming you are talking about the shopping center with the big fountain, the Cheeburger Cheeburger and the Cinelli's pizzaria right?)

Ummm....the Harris Teeter (gosh, I destroyed that spelling in the earlier post) at High House Road & 55, I don't think it has a CheeseBurger/CheeseBurger, there is a Burger KIng & accross the street a Kroger.
anyways, I'll look forward to trying the original, thanks for the tip!
Tacos Mexico is the one on 55. They just got written up in the paper for having really good food. My DH and son went there. He said it is very authentic mexican (has the sauces etc.) They said it was pretty good. Hard to compare to CA where really good Mexican places are a dime a dozen. If you are looking for more of a fresh mex style this would not be it as again it is very authentic.
