Hi
We are being relocated to North Carolina in the next 6 months.
We are starting to research a few areas. We would like an affluent area with good schools. We will have a daughter in college and one in 10th grade. She plays competitive soccer so that is a must. We are willing to spend up to $850,000 for a house. We would also like to have or build an in ground pool. We enjoy restaurants and being fairly close too all conveniences. We enjoy the arts and like sports and the beach. Daughter would be happy if Nordstroms was near by! Appreciate your input!
PS
What is the weather like during the year? Any snow?
Thank you!

Where is the job located that you are being relocated for? Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill?

There are plenty of places in all three to find homes in your price range (and above). While neighborhood pools are common here in the Triangle in newer communities, a little research will reveal those with the option to builld your own. FWIW, there is Nordstroms at the Streets at Southpoint (http://www.streetsatsouthpoint.com/html/index20.asp - broken link) in Durham.

If you could provide more specifics like where you are actually relocating to and what kind of house you are looking for I think you will get some great detailed responses here. Good luck.

You won't see much snow here, with only a dusting some years, and some years a few snowfalls of a few incches.
Annual chart.

Beaches are 2.5 to 4 hours away, depending on which beach you fall in love with.

Your budget opens up myriad possibilities throughout the Triangle, to the point of overload.
Do you prefer a rural, suburban, or urban location?
Is commuting distance a consideration? If so, how long a commute and to what area?
Is it your preference to build new, or is a good resale home acceptable?

NW Cary may suit you well, if the commute to work is good.
High Schools are great.
Access to all local universities is good, and it is a central location to partake of cultural events throughout the Triangle.
Nordstroms is easily accessed off I-40 at the Streets of Southpoint in SW Durham.

Copperleaf, Cameron Pond, Preston, Weston Estates, Weycroft, Cary Park, Hilliard Forest, Carpenter Village might be starting points in Cary.

Chapel Hill- Tuscany Ridge and Meadowmont, but there are resales throughout in older neighborhoods.

Thanks. My husband will be traveling all of the Southeast states. We just need to live in part of his territory. We would like to be within driving distance to Pa NJ NY because that is where our family lives. As far as houses, I would love a stone front home with 5 bedrooms with 4000 sq feet. We should be fairly close to an airport and we would need a good high school for our daughter. Surburban I think but close to everything.
We will be making a few trips out to North Carolina over the next few months to seek out certain areas. Just wanted to do some leg work beforehand.

You should have a multitude of choices with your price range and your status as non-commuters.
