We are just now picking up from Milwaukee Wisconsin and moving to Cary. What is it like there compared to the Midwest, and what about the prospects of starting a new family life there after experiencing the Midwest?

Do you have jobs? Can you afford to spend at least $500,000 on a home (the average in Cary)?
Plenty of homes in Cary in the $225,000 and under range. Some very pretty neighborhoods, too.
I apologize for being incorrect and will take your word for it that homes under $250 can be found After house hunting with my brother not too long ago this was truly my impression. The only "affordable" things we saw were the older neighborhood near the actual old Cary downtown - other than that everything was in the $500 range and up!

That's where I live and yes, most houses here are less than 200K and have at least 1/4 acre. Lots of tear downs going on.

I live in a 14 year old neighborhood where homes sell for $300,000+/-.
I did a search of $225,000 and under and found 78 single family detached results in Cary.
These are homes from the '50's, '60's, '70's, '80's, and '90's.
It can certainly be done. Someone just didn't give you a great tour...
Plenty of nice townhomes in Cary in the $100-150,000 range as well.
I think its a great area to have a family and enjoy the outdoors. Compared to Miami where I am from things are much slower, but I enjoy the quality of life and love it here.

This is certainly good to hear! I would hate to know that such a nice little town had gotten so expensive that only people in certain income brackets could live there
Again, thank you for correcting me - I strive for accuracy in all my posts and would never intend to give out bad information!

I moved down from Michigan last summer. It's hot in the summer but overall the weather is more pleasant. Cary is very family friendly (very safe, lots of things to do, huge number of kids, easy access to events, and the schools are pretty good). And it's very easy to venture into Raleigh from time to time.
Many people are new to the area so it's easy to meet others that may share common experiences. Housing is reasonable although Cary is pricier than most of the surrounding areas. Overall, just a very pleasant place to be.
