Absolutely horrific and disgusting. The employee quoted in the article who referred to the shoppers as "savages" was right on.

This is another reason why corporate America is so messed up these days. Every year on Black Friday someone is injured or killed by these stores hyping their deep discount for the lucky few who are among the first ones to find the one of ten items at the special price. Why not just have the sale all day long? They will sell a ton a items this way and not recklessly create a stamped at their stores. The shoppers also should be blamed for their own blatant disregard for human life when they ran over this poor soul.

Yes, blame corporate America for some disgusting human beings' despicable behavior. I can see that. How about blaming it on a culture that places no value on human life with the exception of your own.

What is wrong with people? Is being the first to save $xxx on an item that's going to be marked down after Christmas anyway worth someone's life?

I do blame the people for their inhumane act of trampling someone to death just to save money. The stores, especially in large metro areas, know that they will have large crowds and they still do very little to control the crowds, should share the blame. Lets face it, there were 2000 people showing up at the store, on LI that is very foreseeable. They should of had more crowd control than what they did.

Why is this a thread bashing Long Island. Like people in Long Island are more savage than any other metro area in the country? It's disgusting what happened, but this could have been Omaha, NE or Boise, ID. It's sick and sad, but why is this Long Island's fault?

The Green Acres Mall also is used by many residents of not so great communities just over the city line in Queens County.

When I lived on LI in the 50's - 60's, Green Acres was a strip mall and was very popular with NYC residents since Nassau County had no sales tax while NYC had a sales tax.

The Sunrise Drive In Theater that used to be there was a great place to date for me any my now wife of 38 years. Later on, a multi-screen theater took over and there were several instances of gang related violence.

Walmart really needed to have better security for crowd control given the history of the area.
