Heard there are major layoffs going on in IBM all over the country 1400 in RTP so far, today and yesterday. WRAL ran a story as well. SO depressing!!! My heart goes out to everyone going through a lay-off.D
Wow. 1400 more added to those looking for jobs in the triangle. It's really scary!
This is why I never really bought into the future population growth into the triangle. It looks like there'll be an outflux of population as these federal government jobs begin setting up in REALLY hard hit areas like Michigan, Ohio, etc.
Anybody have a link to the story with details about RTP?
ViewFromThePeak,
I've seen your comments before about people fleeing to infrastructure jobs in other states. Is that a serious or semi serious comment? I only ask because I don't really see the connection between say a software engineer and a structural engineer or the skill sets needed to be successful at those two very different jobs.

One clarification - the 1,400 layoff number applies to the IBM Software Group (SWG) across North America. RTP is one of the sites that has SWG employees that are affected, but not all of the 1,400 people loosing their jobs work in RTP.
IBM had evaluations and from what I heard, anyone that had a bad review is gone. Also-they are looking to get out of manufacturing and focus more on services. Its not the recession. IBM is doing well, its just IBM being IBM. Perfect timing.
