We are about to relocate from NYC and would like to rent for 6-12 mos while we get to know the area, see if the new job sticks, etc. Anyone have advice or recommendations on rental communities? As Manhattan transplants, we're hoping to avoid too much suburban shock. Ideally we'd like to be in an interesting, kid-friendly, walkable neighborhood w/ amenities (shopping, restaurants, coffee houses, etc). General budget is a 3BR around $1K/mo. Thanks so much! Diana

I should add that my husband will be working off the 540 on Six Forks Road, so commuting is a factor. Thanks again!

You should be able to get something for $1000. 6 months might be tough.
Try Rhyne Rentals, Block R.E., and don't say "family friendly" to a professional. It may well be considered discriminatory, and might be construed as an attempt at entrapment.

thanks for those RE recommendations. Could you elaborate on your "family friendly" comment - I don't get it!

I have clients who are renting an apartment on six forks, close to 540, I can get the information from them. They chose this apartment (originally they rented a house through craigslist and it turned into a nightmare) because it has flexible leases and they could do a month to month. They are waiting to sell their home in arizona and have put an offer on a house here in raleigh. Anyhow, they like the complex fine, so email me or PM me if you would like the information.

Leigh

Default craigslist.com

Check out craigslist.com for info on temp housing, employment, community info, etc. It is a great source.

When we were building our house, we had a 3 month lease at The Village apartments on Strickland Road, right by Six Forks. It's a Korman community. There was plenty of shopping and entertainment within walking distance, and it was reasonably priced, especially for a short term lease - 3 years ago, 2 bedroom/2 bath was I think $840. Six Forks Station is there as well, although I'm not familiar with their rates personally, I've heard good things.

pm me if you need more details.

Default Apartment Guide

Hi Ninasmom,
I'm also relocating from NYC and picked up an Apartment Guide with tons of listings. Try going to Apartmentguide.com. Good luck with everything!

If you are looking for a single family home I have investors that own properties in the Cary area. 3 Bed/2 1/2 bath for $1100 per month w/a garage. They have one property left off of High House Rd in Cary. Send me a PM if you're interested.
