Unfortunately, I dont think this is a anything new for new construction sites and one of the reasons why builders are staying away from using copper plumbing. Its sad what the world is coming to, but its the sign of the times. New construction sites are more popular for thefts. Our home was robbed of appliances right after we closed.
Before. Luckily we came down for a visit and probably missed them by a day or 2. The worst part was they did a little bit of collateral damage and left the back doors open. Insurance covered the appliances well enough which we didnt replace until after we moved in. We upgraded everything and switched over to propane stove which my wife preferred, so I guess you can say it worked out ok.
For those buying anything in a new development (especially where new construction is still ongoing) and not planning to move in right away, I would recommend having a monitored alarm system installed immediately after closing. I've even heard of cases where plumbing fixtures (toilets and tubs) are being stolen.
