Where did the Durham boogeyman go? No Cary or Raleigh, they must have no clue what they are doing!

Durham, North Carolina
Once a tobacco town, Durham, N.C., has evolved into a world-class center of all things advanced. This city of 206,000, located halfway between the Atlantic coast and the Great Smoky Mountains, is called the "City of Medicine" because of its expansive healthcare industry. And although widely known as the home of prestigious Duke University, it's also a thriving technology hub. At the same time, Durham's mild climate allows residents to get out and explore the region's abundant outdoor attractions. Consider hiking one of the many distinct trails and greenways or heading over to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for an afternoon baseball game.

Perhaps you should visit a few more times, and also accept that your personal reaction from being there "many times" may not represent the consensus view on the place.

I suggest getting out more and enjoying the many nice places that are in Durham. There are a few run down areas, like most cities. Downtown Durham has come a long way and looks great, Duke, the Eno, and even a bit of suburbia for those who find that "nice".

Durham is also a very big place. Where did you visit, and what did you not like? Also, the article states why it is a nice place, can you argue against the statements made?

Depending on where you go in Durham, you will find something different. It's not all the same. The other thing to note is that Durham, Raleigh, Cary, etc end up being on the top of the lists all the time. It's a rotating thing. That tells you they figure the entire area is a good place to be, not just one city.

I thought it was called the "city of medicine" because of all the illegal drugs...

Just kidding, Durham has been improving and growing for some time now - its really coming into its own and just needs more urban revitalization.

Wow, we're in the top 5! What a nice feather in Durham's cap & a nice compliment to the whole Triangle.

Just another great reason for folks to move to the Triangle. I feel like a broken record, but the Triangle keeps breaking records. I wonder how many people will read the great news and move here.
