I agree with the other posters that Allen & Son is by far the best in the area and most genuine pit cooked bbq, you can drive by and see them starting the wood at sunrise. If you're really determined to get the whole perspective on NC BBQ, go buy or check out a copy of 'Holy Smoke: The Big Book of North Carolina Barbecue' by John Shelton Reed

This has been painful to read................Huey's in Mebane is Mecca and Medina rolled into one. Normal folks would kill for that slaw and hush puppies. The meat is The Standard they all aspire to.
