Hello Everyone. This is the perfect place to get some answers about moving to this area. I'm 31 single and have a 12 yr old son. I'm thinking about relocating late spring 2011. I am in the real estate business. Any advice on Brokers to research? Also I will be renting for at least 6 months before I buy a home. Would like something that is close to shopping and teenager friendly. Thanks - Nik

The real estate market has tanked here. Do have have prospects lined up?

I have no prospects. I am looking for a new start, and change of climate. I hate snow!

It would be foolhardy to move here with no job prospects.

Really? I must object! Where do you get your information from? First hand knowledge or what you read online?

The Real Estate market has NOT tanked here.

I recently put a brick ranch onto MLS and it sold in 3 days.

I am currently working with first time homebuyers, buyers moving into a larger home (since we sold theirs in 3 days) and people relocating to the area. Many of the agents at my office that weren't as busy as I am, are working with many buyers, as well.

We did have a slowdown and our prices did go down BUT not in all areas and not in all price ranges. I'm actually seeing multiple offers on some homes.

The home that we sold in 3 days actually had another agent, telling me that her buyers were thinking of writing an offer and since they missed out on that home, they were going to have to move on to their second choice. So another home will be sold.

Being a brand new Agent in this market is not easy. However, depending on your work ethic, you can do it. I'd suggest you look at the larger companies because once hired, you will want a few weeks of training to understand our paperwork and our customs, as well as the NC legal issues. And as you know, Real Estate is a commission based job so if you have your RE license, it isn't a problem to find a company that will hire you.

According to some on this forum, real estate isn't brain surgery so how hard can it be to make a living at it?!!

Had to add that last line. I find myself very funny today!
Vicki

I know some very hard-working real estate agents who would agree that things are not peachy keen in the real estate field in the Triangle area.

It's good to get all opinions, though. I'm glad Vicki is doing well!

Thanks, LB. I am not saying that all is peachy keen in this area and certainly not in the real estate market anywhere. I AM saying that the market did not tank and isn't tanked NOW.

I see some Agents struggling and I see some that got into RE because they thought it was EASY and it IS NOT!

I see many Agents making a decent living and doing well at something they love.

I think it is do able for most people who really love people and have good business sense so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for others. If a person is a RE agent in PA and did well, I'd be willing to bet that they'd do well in NC.

Does ANYONE say "peachy keen" anymore???

LOL...made myself laugh yet again!

Vicki

I'm married to someone in the RE business--or I should say, out of business--is where I get my info., though granted he is in new construction. But I've known more than a few resale agents who are out of work right now. Just trying to save someone from moving here with an unrealistic expectation of the ability to make a living.

I know quite a few agents that got out of real estate as it became more difficult. I also remember a lot of agents getting out of Real Estate back in the early '90s when the interest rate was 18%.

That doesn't mean our market has tanked.

It does mean that you must work harder and do more for your clients. It does mean that if you have a good base of referrals, you stay busy.

Real Estate isn't for everyone. You have to be self motivating and really enjoy what you do. Getting along with people isn't for everyone. My hubby wouldn't survive!

Again...for ever agent that you say isn't doing well, I can name those that are.

Those that have left will most definitely say that the market caused them to have no clients. I don't think that is 100% the case.

Vicki

Of course people say "peachy keen." So cut the gas and don't get frosted.

Hey, I remember my toddler years.
