Hello!

I'm curious. I've been getting mixed signals on "violent" crime in Rapid City. Based on Rapid City Police Dept reports, it "seems" like there is a lot (per capita). How bad is it? Is it gang related? Is it interracial (American Indian vs Euro-Am.) ? Any MS-13 activity? Is it spilling over from Denver? I'm sold on everything else in Rapid City, but this is the only "gray area" for me. On the two occasions I was there (Rapid City), I didn't feel any crime element "in the air". Give me straight talk from the locals who live there.

Thank you all.

Just avoid the deep Northside and you'll be fine. I've lived here 19 years and I've never been a victim of crime. I also work (and park) in a shady area of Rapid City. Crime here is 99% domestic. I've never heard of a random murder or rape in Rapid City, that just doesn't happen. There's probably one drive-by per year and it's always on the Northside by Wood Avenue or Lemmon Street. I have heard that drug trafficking here is mostly out of Denver.

The northside has crime, the rest doesn't really. Crime jumps during the motorcycle rally, about 2 weeks of the year total.
I'm in the Valley. April of 2004 a murder took place a couple houses away, but it was a fluke really. It was the magazine sales rep from Cal murdered when the guy paid for a magazine but didn't really want it. Crazy, huh!
Other than that, no crimes, no breakins, no vandalized cars, etc.

East North Street seems to be the epicenter to me. I've only lived on Ellsworth for about 5 years and it just seems everytime some major crime goes down it's in the area close to East North St. That's just my perception since the most recent murder I can think of happened at one of the motels on East North. I know the whole of North Rapid is worse than the rest of Rapid.

Also where do you live in PA?

Smile Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh...and I love it, but after going to the Hills, I found my next home.

I guess everything north is bad, right?

Thanks

There may be some MS13 drug activity passing through the area, but I've never seen or heard of MS13 violence that was localized here. Most of the violence seems to be domestic, or as previously stated, wanna be's from the north side.

I'm sure lots of the crime stats come from out of towners who come through and get rowdy during rally season

I came here from Phoenix, and we had plenty of MS13 activity there - the sheriff's office was working directly with the Honduras trying to curb some of the flow.

http://www.city-data.com/city/Rapid-...th-Dakota.html

Here are a couple of sites that could give you an overall idea of crime in RC. We do have crime in our state and if you look at the first site, it appears to be a bit high in Rapid. But there are many places that have a crime rate over 1,000 on the CD site.

The second link lets you compare cities.
